hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, "Monothon" Fundrasier (Pendleton, OR)—Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA) announced today that it will host several renowned artists for a weekend “Monothon” to raise funds for the organization’s 2008 exhibit in New Zealand. The event is scheduled for November 16-18, 2007, and will include numerous artists creating monotype prints that will be for sale to the public. The funds raised will go toward travel costs for CSIA’s participation at the New Zealand Biennial International Art Festival, in which some of the organization’s print collection will be exhibited and its Master Printer will be conducting a printmaking workshop. “Monotype prints are created by pressing paper to an inked surface that an artist has created,” explains Frank Janzen, CSIA Master Printer. “The result is a unique piece of art that cannot be replicated.” Several renowned artists, including James Lavadour, Phillip Charette, Marie Watt, Larry McNeil, Joe Fedderson and others, will participate in a two-and-a-half day “Monothon” to create the one-of-a-kind monotype prints. “The artists we have recruited so far are truly excited for this event,” says Janzen. “We anticipate a lot of creative energy with this group and it will inspire wonderful works of art.” The completed prints donated by the artists will be displayed in the CSIA gallery with a public viewing and sale starting at noon on Sunday, November 18. Prints will be priced at $100 for a 11” x 15” size print and $200 for a 15” x 22” print. Guests attending the art sale on the 18th will have the opportunity to view the newly created pieces first-hand and perhaps even meet the artist! Prints that do not sell on the 18th will be available for purchase online at www.crowsshadow.org. Funds raised from the Monothon sale will go toward the travel fund to send CSIA representatives to the Pataka Museum and exhibit during the New Zealand Biennial International Art Festival in February 2008. “We are so honored to have been asked to participate in this prestigious event,” says Pat Walters, CSIA Board President. “Our participation will represent the widest range of work by North American Native artists seen in New Zealand in over a decade and will put Crow’s Shadow in front of an international audience!” The exhibition is expected to draw 900 artists and over 250,000 visitors from around the world.
