Dear Crow’s Shadow supporters,

Ever since our founding in 1992, we at Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts have remained extremely grateful for the generous support we have received from individuals and small businesses. Like any small community nonprofit, the successes of Crow’s Shadow would not be possible without such support. And while we continue to do our utmost to generate revenue through our programs and grant applications, there inevitably remain certain unmet or under-met needs, some of which we believe are best addressed through local giving.

In 2009 we began the Sponsor a Frame program as a means to address one such need, presenting our supporters with a very specific opportunity to assist Crow’s Shadow in its mission “to provide educational, social and economic opportunities for Native Americans through artistic development.” We asked donors to help us frame all of the fine-art prints in the Crow’s Shadow permanent collection.

Here’s how it works…

As part of our ongoing printmaking residency series for emerging and established artists, Crow’s Shadow takes one print from each edition or individual print series created by the artist to be kept as part of a permanent collection. Through the exhibition of these collected prints at regional, national and international venues, Crow’s Shadow seeks to educate, as well as promote the work of the artist and generate sales from the rest of artist’s inventory of prints. Our campaign last year brought in $1,200 and allowed us to exhibit the work of artist Adnan Charara.

Since that time, our Master Printer Frank Janzen has collaborated with several other outstanding Native American artists, including Ric Gendron, Wendy Red Star and Vanessa Enos. Our current goal is to raise $2,400 to frame 14 new prints in time for our comprehensive, biennial exhibit at Willamette University’s Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem, Ore. This particular exhibit opens Oct. 2 and will feature the work of every artist who has worked at Crow’s Shadow during the last two years.

Here’s how you can help…

With a generous donation of $200, you can Sponsor a Frame in our permanent collection. This donation will cover the cost of materials and labor for the professional-quality framing of one print. As a gesture of recognition, your name or that of your family member or business will appear on a display placard, to be shown whenever and wherever that print exhibits. Our permanent collection regularly appears at galleries and professional exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest and around the country.
