Basket Weaving Workshop with Joey Lavadour

November 16 - 18, 2019

Saturday & Sunday 9AM – 4PM

Monday 9AM – 3PM

During this three-day workshop participants will be led through basket weaving with Joey Lavadour. The main focus of this class will be basic twining and full-turn twining. Participants will choose between flat or round bags to start. The workshop will teach the beginning and ending of a bag and how to do a simple design with the full-turn twining technique.

About the instructor: Joey Lavadour is an enrolled member of the Walla Walla tribe (Metis people) and is a master basket weaver from Walla Walla, Washington. Joey was taught how to weave baskets at the age of fifteen by Carrie Sampson. For over fifty years he has carried on this tradition as a request by Carrie and as an obligation to carry and pass on the tradition to others.

What to bring: Yarn and twine will be provided. Feel welcome to bring additional supplies if you would like to. Ten novices and five experienced weavers will be welcome to attend the class (limited to fifteen participants).

Lunch: A basic lunch will be provided on all three days. If you have dietary restrictions, please plan on bringing a sack lunch. All are welcome to bring beverages of their own choice.

Registration: This class is open to everyone, however space is limited. Participants will be required to make a ten dollar payment in advance, with a suggested donation of ten dollars to Crow’s Shadow to cover some of the material expenses; no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Pre-registration is required. To register please email sequoiaconner@crowsshadow.org or call us at 541-276-3954.
